Proverbs 26:16 - The sluggard is wiser in his own eyes than seven men who can answer sensibly. (ESV)
You'll always have the excuse, but you won't always have the opportunity.
One thing I've learned as a parent is that being busy and working hard doesn't necessarily mean you aren't lazy. You can be busy simply to avoid the thing or things you don't want to do. You can work hard and neglect simple discipline.
I believe we have made it social acceptable to be busy and work hard at good things and use that as our excuse to neglect the very best things.
Church attendance is down and falling across the nation. But that is no doubt because the weekends are busier than they have ever been before, and it is true that families need some down time at the house. Parents are less active in the education of their children. But that is no doubt due to the fact that both parents are working, and you in fact can't do everything. There is a rise in fatherless homes. That is no doubt due to the fact that we have somehow decided that children are more the mother's responsibility than the father's, and that governmental programs incentivize single parenthood. I could go on, but I'm typing on a phone and it's annoying. (See what I did there!)
There are good facts and good reasons why we are doing the things we are choosing to do. There are good facts and good reasons that explain why we aren't doing the things that we are too busy to do. But proper excuses don't always make you right.
So, what "BESTS" are you neglecting? What are your good excuses? Admit to yourself why your wrong.
You'll always have the excuse, but you won't always have the opportunity.
